Speedskater Pekka Koskela of Finland set the world record for 1,000 meters Saturday, beating the previous mark by 0.03 seconds. Koskela skated 1 minute and 7 seconds to break the record held by Shani Davis of the United States. Davis had set his record at the Utah Olympic Oval on Nov. 20, 2005, at 1 minute 7:03 seconds.
